Ah, Yes, I Remember It Well

I am mostly not a person with a Theatre degree these days.

It's been so long since I have referred to a room with seats and a stage as a "space" that it just can't be there. I haven't threatened another human being with a promise to reveal their measurements, nor have I stopped myself from trimming up layers in my hair because it might hurt my versatility. It can't be there anymore.

While I still use the word "juxtapose", I also rattle off phrases like "engaging the reluctant reader" or "data driven lesson plans" so easily that I wonder who I am.

I just remembered.

Just now, when I gasped like a twelve year old girl upon seeing that Uta Hagen was a guest voice on King Of The Hill, I remembered.

You don't have to get it, just know that I remembered.

Can I get it? I've left theatre & music to teach & mom, and I get it. I so, so get it.

Whatever possessed Uta Hagen to do "King of the Hill"??

Okay, does it show how much I get it if I beg you to tell me that I haven't missed this yet?!

Is the word verification thing meant to keep drunk folks from commenting? Am I the only person who has to squint, turn my head, and mouth the letters?!?

Cheryl, you dih-dunt just ask why Uta Hagen would do King of the Hill, did you?

Because, as Brad Garrett just said as he accepted an Emmy and thanked the writers, "It's all about the page!". The writing is genius. If you should ever visit this part of the country, let me take you on a guided tour and show you how real the satire is.

Jill, it was a local re-run, so you'll have to watch for listings. Does VA give you the pleasure that we have here of about 10 episodes a day? You should catch it soon.

Sad that we live in a world where word verification is necessary. Know that I will have to decode it myself in order to finish this comment.

I second that emotion (educat's, that is) regarding "King of the Hill." It's difficult to understand that it is satire (and not gross exaggeration) until you've lived in the OK/TX area. Living in WI, PA: King of the Hill = not funny. Living in OK: King of the Hill = hi-larity.

And if it gives the show any more credibility, I'd do a guest voice on it.

Umm...

Guess we just don't get "King" out here in L.A. But "The Simpsons" has quite a loyal following amoung film/tv buffs out here, so I guess I can get it. I've never watched a full episode of "King of the Hill." But since you, Uta, & Karina get it, maybe I'll give it another shot. :)

Now, I didn't finish my degree (because I'm a quitter) but I did move to Chicago and "act" for money for a while before permanently abandoning the whole B.S.-littered world of theatre. Still, I rarely think of having had an education in theatre (though I see I exhibit enough of one to use the proper 're' versus 'er' as art versus place). I guess I only retained my training enough to be hyper-critical of just about every piece of drama I see or in which I accidentally participate.

I wonder if Doc meant to make us hate theatre?

Oh, and p.s.

I fear I must have been one of the unpleasant theatre majors that made your "99" aka "Anonymous" commentor not want to stick with that major.
If I might, I'd like to offer a public apology to her:
I'm sorry, ma'am. I want to promise you that it wasn't personal. I hated everything at that point in my life and wasn't of a mind to welcome anybody into my life. I'm sorry.

Did you hate me in 1999, Marty?
