Bring In The Okie Noise, Bring In The Okie Funk

OkieFunk is running a fine series of Okie Rebels With A Cause. He has profiled Woody Guthrie, Will Rogers, and Tom Joad. It's fine, fine stuff.

I also just learned that Woody Guthrie actually penned the lyrics to Billy Bragg's All You Fascists.

I am hoping to ward off a bit of the Okie Funk myself and am off for more sinus meds. Yum.

Gutherie celebrated those Americans that went to Spain and fought Fascism before it became stylish to do so.

They were the Abraham Lincoln Brigade.

His reward? To be put on an F.B.I. watch list and have a file kept on him.

and, EdWonk, he is sadly sadly overlooked in Oklahoma History classes.

I use some of his music when I teach Soph. English.

So what's Okie Funk gonna write about now that he's covered the only three cool Oklahomans? Who's left? Darrell K Royal?
