This Still Isn't A Real Entry. Give Me Time

We just love the ICU. We love it so much we can't seem to leave. If you're keeping track, it's 2.5 weeks there. We could be much better, we could be much worse. I just spent some time reading old entries about dad, though, and wanted to reflect on them here.

So go here. And then here. You'll want to go here also. Don't miss this either. And I love this one.

He offered us fifty bucks for a Diet Coke tonight, so I guess we're swinging uphill.

My own father passed on Saturday. Mamacita sent people to me via Blog it Forward-and I found you likewise.

Prayers for you all.

That Diet Coke thing is hysterical. Tell him to get out his wallet--I'll be there in 20 minutes. Does he want it in the can or over ice?

Seriously? I don't mind it when stuff happens to me and mine. I can deal. Sort of. But when it happens to others, beyond my reach, where all I can do is turn it over to The Higher Power, and pray? I pray fast and furious!

Thoughts and furious prayers from this spot on the planet. And yeah, if need be per Susan, I'll bring the ice...

Hospitals are exausting. I'm thinking about your family.

You know, the Last Supper conversation could be a great prompt for a song by the Austin Lounge Lizards.

It was my Dad's greatest wish when I was small that I play guitar. I've had a guitar since I was four, even though money wuz taht'. His plan worked by 4th grade, when I taught myself to play with a Mel Bay book and a John Denver album.

I took my guitar when I went to see my Dad in the hospital, and taught myself the Anne Murray song "Snowbird," which was one of his favorites. We sang it to him there-- very quietly-- and then my siblings demanded we play a lot of old-timey, Primitive Baptist hymns and sing. (It's amazing how people who are basically functional atheists come to Jesus in a crisis.) And that's what we did.

I hope y'all aren't inflicting "The Old Rugged Cross" on anyone down there....

Still praying for ya and Edudad, sis.

Last weekend when things were better (we had some emergency surgery on Sunday), Dad was singing up a storm. He never sings normally.

He sang anything that came into his head. "Please Mr. Please" after a run of "Please please please please"-es. "You are the sunshine of my life" to mom. I pulled out my laptop and we listened to some June Carter Cash and Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.

Good times.
