Another Reason To Love My Father

He picks the deer hairs out of the grill of my car when I just can't handle it. Forget the crumpled hood and hanging signal light, the deer hairs matter the most. Now it's totally driveable.

Eeeewww. Jeez, where do the deer hide in OKC? What a nice daddy. I'll go call mine now.

How I wish the deer had stayed hidden!

I was just outside of Shawnee in the middle of the night after visiting college friends. The deer jumped onto the shoulder, looked into my eyes, and ran to her death. It was all very quick and perhaps the most frightening experience of my life.

I am taking my car in tomorrow for it's 5-7 day sleepover camp. It gets a whole new hood and other exciting things. I am very lucky to have as little damage to my car and myself as I did. I only hope the deer died instantly.

Having just lived through an accident myself, I know the fear you're talking about. Given, we hit a buick and not a buck. And it didn't so much leap out at us from the darkness as stop quickly in front of us in broad daylight. But frightening? Check.

It's so good to hear that you're not hurt and that the car is fixable. Does insurance even cover that?

Thanks, Zalm. I thought of you all this weekend and was reminded how fortunate I am not to have been hurt. I know you had a hard time.

Insurance does cover collisions with deer. I was suprised as there was no police report or anything, but it's covered. Now it's just the waiting game as they do the repairs.

I'm glad you're OK. Deers colliding with cars have been popping up a lot in my life lately. Someone in Tennessee was killed not too long ago after a deer jumped over one car and landed on the windshield of another. And then we saw at least three dead deer on our trip to Indiana last weekend. I'm guessing they were all struck by cars and not shot by roadside hunters. Anyways, glad it wasn't worse.
